...Exploring Canada's Rocky Mountains on Skis

Introduction to Powder Ski Touring Courses from Heli Canada Adventures!

Introduction to powder skiing courseHeli Canada Adventures is pleased to announce its newest training: six-day Introduction to Powder Ski Touring courses! Ski touring provides the perfect way to explore the mountains in winter: only the soft swish of your skis disturbs the quiet slopes, and every skiing ascent is rewarded with breathtaking views and exhilarating descents.

By using normal downhill skis with a special binding (which pivots at the toe of the boot and can lock down the heel), powder ski touring lets you explore deep into untouched skiing wilderness. Sticky skiing skins let you climb with ease, while the heel lock makes downhill skiing a breeze. Snowboarding enthusiasts are welcome on our courses: we highly recommend split boards, and good snowboarding skills to keep up with those who are skiing.

Heli Canada Adventures' introduction to powder ski touring courses take place in Rogers Pass, located in Canada's Glacier National Park. Snowfalls are legendary here, preserving the ancient glaciers that still hang in alpine valleys. Winter brings a special magic: blue skies make diamonds out of the snow's surface, and if snow is falling, it means even better powder skiing!

Introduction to powder skiing courseOur powder ski touring courses cover all the training you need to enjoy ski touring, including 16-hour Introduction to Avalanche Safety courses that adhere to the Canadian Avalanche Association's guidelines for Recreational Avalanche Safety training. You'll spend six days in the mountain backcountry, with superior accommodation at the Rogers Pass Best Western Hotel and outstanding daily powder skiing. Courses include training on ski touring gear, weather watching, how to walk, track setting, self rescue, route finding while skiing, and more!

The introduction to powder ski touring courses are designed for those just beginning their ski touring training. Participants should have a moderate fitness level, and be able to link 10 turns skiing a blue-run ski hill without falling.
