Having the right gear will make your adventure trip much more enjoyable. Please refer to the equipment lists below to help you plan your adventure vacation, course, or trip.

Most of the equipment can be rented from either the Canmore Climbing Center, Wilsons in Lake Louise, The University of Calgary, Mountain Equipment Coop, or Mountain Magic in Banff.

General Summer Equipment
List for Climbing Activities:

  • UIAA Approved Helmet
  • Harness
  • Locking Munter biner
  • Belay device
  • Rock shoes (a pair you can wear all day comfortably)
  • Lightweight hiking boot or mountaineering boot (klettershue)
  • Pack large enough to carry all your gear.
  • Water bottle (Empty 1 L Gatorade Bottles work great)
  • Head lamp
  • Collapsible hiking poles

Clothing and Accessories:

  • Anorak windproof water resistant: Direct X Jacket, Super Puma Jacket, Torrentshell Jacket
  • Rain Pants: Torrentshell Pants
  • Down vest or jacket (definitely nice to have)
  • Gaiters
  • Warm inner layer: RegulatorT R1 & R2
  • Socks (warm!!! wool)
  • Long underwear (might not be necessary depends on your circulation!) CapileneŽ Silkwight & Lightweight
  • Climbing pants and shirt: GI II Pants
  • Shorts
  • Gloves or Mitts: wool, 1 light pair, 1 heavier pair
  • Wool hat or toque: SynchillaŽ Alpine hat
  • Baseball or sun hat

  • Sunscreen and Lipbalm
  • Camera and Film
  • Blister Kit (Moleskin, Elastoplast on roll, Second Skin, an ounce of
    prevention is worth a pound of cure in this department)

Camping Equipment:

  • Four season sleeping bag (-10 recommended)
  • Thermarest
  • Four season tent (three man is good for groups)
  • Spare batteries
  • Toothbrush etc.
  • Camp booties (definitely nice to have)
  • Pack large enough to carry all the gear and some group gear.

Summer Expeditions

Back Packing trips, Add:

  • Good Hiking boots are mandatory- Light hiking boots are just going to
    give you grief!. You need good ankle support and a good platform.
  • Collapsible poles and umbrella
  • Pack large enough to carry personal gear and sleeping gear
  • A large industrial garbage bag to protect pack contents from water!
  • We have four food caches that we can leave a change of underwear and socks at each cache. Please leave these out to put with the caches on the morning of departure

General Winter Equipment List For Ski or Snowboard Activities:

  • Skis
  • Ski poles
  • Split Board with touring bindings and skins, boots and collapsible
    poles or
  • Snowboard (with means of attachment to the pack) snowshoes, boots and
    collapsible poles
  • Boots (warm is a must!)
  • Skins - please make sure they are wide enough (waxes for flats if you
    like in addition to skins)
  • Avalanche probe
  • Avalanche beacon (457 kHz or dual frequency ONLY. 457 single frequency RECOMMENDED)
  • Collapsible shovel
  • Day pack
  • Water bottle (Empty 1 L Gatorade Bottles work great)
  • Head lamp
  • Regular winter boots
  • A repair kit for your bindings, boots, snowboards and skins

Winter Optional Stuff:

Glacier Gear for Crevasse Rescue and Glacier Travel Course, Add:
